Mount Ontake is the second largest volcano in Japan, standing at 3,067 m its last eruption was on the 27th September 2014.

The Shinano River is the most famous river in all of Japan. It's the largest and the longest! At 11,900km, it runs from Nagano Prefecture to Niigata Prefecture. On it's route it is joined by numerous smaller rivers including, Sai and Uono rivers, both of which drain small but productive and popular intercontinental basins. 


Fun Fact:
Japan sits on the Ring of Fire which means there are lots of earthquakes and volcanic eruptions all over the country. Many volcanoes goon continuous eruptions for months!

Mount Fuji is located outside of the capital city Tokyo, it's an active volcano, standing at 3,776 metres high, it's Japan's tallest peak. 


On September 14, 1984, the Otaki earthquake (magnitude 6.8) in Nagano Prefecture, Japan, caused a major mudslide on the south face of Mount Ontake, which reached speeds of 80~100 km/h. Heavy rain over several days prior to the quake contributed to causing the mudslide, known as “Ontake Kuzure,” which took the lives of 29 people. After the disaster, barriers against mudslide were erected in nine locations at the foot of Mt. Ontake

The Sumida River runs through Tokyo and is 27 km long! Its tributaries include the Kanda and the Shakujii rivers.
